Rosary Master

A catalin object, a resin of a million years, a piece of mammoth ivory. Matter handed down from the past becomes, bead by bead, a work at the lathe. No mould. No series.

The past of the matter

Every matter
carries a memory.

A catalin object, a gaming die, a fossil resin of a million years. It is cut. It takes form at the lathe. It is trued by hand, burnished, and strung on silk one bead at a time. What emerges is not a new object — it is the second life of matter held in trust from the past.

From objects
Catalin · dice · antique objects Cast catalin from the thirties, German and Austrian dice. Matter that once bore another identity is given a new guise at the lathe.
From nature
Amber · tortoiseshell · mammoth · kuka Fossil resin, mammoth ivory, hard shell. Time that nature gathered over millions of years comes down to a measure that fits the palm.

„Secdeye varan başın, sabırla susan kalbin, tesbihle zikreden dilin ve sanatla güzelliği arayan ruhun varsa; bil ki sen dünyaya değil, Hakk’a doğru yürüyorsun.

Çünkü gerçek sanat, kulun kırıldığı yerde Rabbine daha güzel dönmesidir.“

The time of the matter
Fossil resin of a million years. Catalin of the thirties. A gaming die of its era. The matter lived long before the master.
The time of the master
Cutting, turning, grinding, stringing. Weeks of patience — and the two times meet in a single measure.

What enters the lathe

Grinding — green catalinWorkshop

  • 01Catalin

Cast resin of the thirties. Cut from antique objects; its colour and grain come from its own past and are never repeated.

  • 02Drop amber

Fossilised natural resin. It responds under ultraviolet light; held to the light, its body becomes visible.

  • 03Clear amber

Clear amber that carries light from end to end. Each cut may bring out a vein never seen in the body before.

  • 04Ottoman pressed amber

Amber pressed under heat and pressure — the classical texture of the Ottoman tesbih tradition.

  • 05Dice

German and Austrian dice. The matter of play takes on the identity of a bead in the master’s hands.

  • 06Mammoth

Fossil mammoth ivory. In the faceted cut its grain rises to the surface; with the years its colour deepens.

  • 07Kuka

A natural hard-shell material. The glazed kind gains depth in light; it warms quickly in the hand.

  • 08Tortoiseshell

A classical tesbih material. It takes body through the blowing technique; its pattern differs in every bead. The order belongs to man, the ornament to nature.

The master — at the latheAnkara

Workshop

In every bead the trace of a hand,
in every work the master’s seal.

Ahmet Turani has been making tesbihs in his Ankara workshop since 2015. He chooses the matter himself and first comes to know it — its vein, its grain, its temperament. Then he cuts, turns it at the lathe, grinds and burnishes it by hand, and strings it on silk one bead at a time. The master does not impose himself on the matter; he makes what lies hidden within it visible, without squandering any of it.

Measure, in every work, is two numbers — the diameter and the length of the bead. 8/12, 10/13, 11/15. These two numbers determine how the piece sits in the hand, how it travels between the fingers, its rhythm. Measure is not a number; it is proportion. This is the master’s language.

Mastery is not skill of hand alone: it asks for a trained eye, knowledge of the material, patience, and knowing where to stop. It is not silencing the matter, but being able to hear what it says.

Ahmet TuraniCertificate card

Why this certificate cannot be counterfeited

  • Card

Every work is presented with an NFC certificate card. Holding the card to a phone is enough — the record opens by itself, with nothing to type. Selected works are presented with the metal Masterwork Card.

  • Security code

Without the card, the record can be reached only with the work code and the 3-digit security code. Like the code on a bank card, it is written on the card alone.

  • Guilloché seal

The pattern is derived by calculation from the work code and belongs to that work alone — the same distinguishing mark on the certificate, on the photographs and on the downloaded document.

The work is singular. Its identity is singular. Its record is singular.
